Make your Bed
By making your bed every morning, you are accomplishing something. So, even if the rest of your day goes completely terrible, and you accomplish nothing else at all, you can at least jump into bed at night saying “At least I made my bed.” Additionally, having a clean space has many benefits for keeping a clear mind and minimizing stress and anxiety. A made bed can make your space feel more organized.
Hydrate before Coffee
Keep a bottle of water by your bed, and as soon as your alarm goes off, sit up and hydrate. I have found this has made it so much easier to wake up and get out of bed. Instead of reaching over to hit snooze on my alarm, I reach over and grab my water. Drinking water before coffee is also a great way to stay on top of hydration for the day. I don’t know about anyone else, but once I start drinking coffee it’s pretty hard for my to transition back to water. If I start with drinking a full glass of water, I don’t find my mind getting foggy and my energy dipping after my second cup of coffee.
Do Something for the Soul
Whether it be reading, journalling, listening to a podcast, or meditating, do something other than scrolling for a little bit. I often find time in the morning to read my devotional and maybe journal for 5-10 minutes. We don’t often realize it, but social media can increase our anxiety, often leading to feelings of dissatisfaction, greed, and comparison. Replacing time scrolling with time reading, writing, praying, or meditating can put our minds in a better place to take on the day,
Pre-Make Breakfast
I will die on the hill that breakfast truly is the most important meal of the day. If your like my, who looks forward to a couple cups of coffee each morning, along with a handful of supplements, an empty stomach is less than ideal. Food is fuel, and what better time of the day to fuel the body than in the morning? Though most don’t have hours every morning to make a fresh breakfast, there are ways to make sure we still get a proper meal without spending too much time in the kitchen. Every week my husband and I make breakfast burritos and egg sandwiches that we keep in the freezer and reheat every morning. Spending 1-2 hours at the beginning of the week prepping breakfasts is worth it if that means a filling breakfast every morning.
